Large Scale Aerobatics Nationals 2018

Overall, there were 32 pilots flying in the Large Scale Aerobatics Nationals 2018 contest. In no particular order they were: Arthur Campher, Boet Denysschen, Brad Rae, Brett Black, Calvin Schroll, Charl du Rand, Chris Zurinskas, Christo Barkhuizen, Cliff Chen, Clint du Toit, Clinton Breytenbach, Danie Potgieter, David Austin, Dijan Viljoen, Gareth De Lange, Gerald Burrell, Gerrit van Deventer, Ian Becke, Ian Edwards, Inus de Wet, Jacques Albert, Joshua Bakker, Joshua Twomey, Justin Gomersall, Kenneth Lello, Lance Hackney, Morne du Plooy, Owen Vuyk, Pierre Fouche, Roland Suhrmuller, Stan Fincham and Victor Barvik. These pilots flew a grand total of 788 judged sequences. 

Charl du Rand won the Sportsman class. There were 10 pilots in Sportsman. The winning order was: (1) Charl du Rand, (2) Arthur Campher, (3) Ian Becke, (4) Brad Rae, (5) Lance Hackney, (6) Clinton Breytenbach, (7) Gerrit van Deventer, (8) Inus de Wet, (9) Clint du Toit and (10) David Austin. They flew 8 known sequences (4 rounds). The scores ranged from a low of 217.7 to a high of 1,000 (a range of 782.3 points). 

Joshua Bakker won the Intermediate class. There were 11 pilots in Intermediate. The winning order was: (1) Joshua Bakker, (2) Roland Suhrmuller, (3) Dijan Viljoen, (4) Kenneth Lello, (5) Morne du Plooy, (6) Victor Barvik, (7) Boet Denysschen, (8) Christo Barkhuizen, (9) Pierre Fouche, (10) Gerald Burrell and (11) Justin Gomersall. Danie Potgieter won the Advanced class. There were 6 pilots in Advanced. The winning order was: (1) Danie Potgieter, (2) Calvin Schroll, (3) Joshua Twomey, (4) Gareth De Lange, (5) Ian Edwards and (6) Stan Fincham. Joshua Twomey won the Freestyle class. There were 4 pilots in Freestyle. The winning order was: (1) Joshua Twomey, (2) Owen Vuyk, (3) Danie Potgieter and (4) Dijan Viljoen. They flew 1 freestyle round. The scores ranged from a low of 444.6 to a high of 1,000 (a range of 555.4 points). 

The tightest competition was for 2nd place in the Unlimited class, with only 0.2 points difference between Cliff Chen and Jacques Albert.
