I have flown R/C off & on since 1978 and caught the IMAC bug 11-12 years ago. I live in Spokane Washington and it all started out innocently enough as a flying buddy of mine (a previous pattern flyer) said we should go fly a small local Imac contest for fun. Well, I left that contest with my Goldberg Ultimate still intact and that was all it took, I was hooked. I attended a couple more local contests and then traveled over to the Seattle area and entered Sportsman for my first Northwest points contest and had a blast. I flew Sportsman at the Imac Nationals in Toledo Ohio in the late 90's then moved to Advanced for about 5 years and now fly in the Unlimited class.

After 10 plus years, numerous different airplanes, meeting a great bunch guys, and the same wife (Thank you honey) I can say that I still enjoy this sport as much as I ever did. I look forward to leading the Northwest Region and contributing to IMAC’s future for the next few years.

Olympia IMAC

All accounts indicate Olympia was a "classically great" PNW IMAC Event. The weather was good, winds were fair and the excitement started on the Friday! ere is an excerpt from a Flying Giants Report;

Wow! Already tons of excitement here at Olympia! Geoff Dryer heard somethin weird with his electrified H9 Extra but couldnt figure it out... so he flew it again and half of the left wings top covering came off! Very nice landing considering... But that was only the warm-up act!

I didnt see it but Pete from Portland and Cheri Kuhn had a mid-air! Looks like Cheri's right wingtip caught part of Pete's right wing and rudder. Amazingly... both airplanes landed safely! Cheri's airplane was missing about 6 inches of wingtip. Pete's airplane was missing a wingtip... had its right aileron DANGLING... HAD HIS RUDDER DANGLING!.. .and he Landed safely!!!!!!!!! Holy Moly! Of course nobody gets it on camera. Oh well!

Well... Three close calls and everyone is safe! OK... I'm going to go knock on some wood, throw some salt over my shoulder......and escort any black cats to the gun range down the road...

COME ON OUT!.........iTS ALREADY LOTS OF FUN AND WE HAVEN'T EVEN BEGUN YET!

With careful planning and precise timing, they complimented Scale Model Aerobatic Flying with a full scale air show during the event! See some of the pictures in the gallery…

06122010 Contest Report, Olympia, WA.

Overall, there were 22 pilots flying in the Olympia, WA (June 12-13, 2010) contest. In no particular order they were: Bill Newman, Chris Elliott, Dan Lurvey, Ron Ash, Mike Raines, Brandon Woyshnis, Greg Zettler, Peter Johnson, Robert Hoover, Jeff Merritt, Cheri Kuhn, Darren Kuhn, Roni Taipale, Bill Fong, Jerry Ruscheinski, Rick Gadd, Darin Miller, Dave Davis, Geoffrey Dryer, Nick Bowling, Azhar Osmanbhoy and Warren Wilson. These pilots flew a grand total of 320 judged sequences.

This contest was flown according to modified rules.

Jeff Merritt won the Basic class. There were 3 pilots in Basic. The winning order was: (1) Jeff Merritt, (2) Chris Elliott and (3) Cheri Kuhn. They flew 7 known sequences (4 rounds). The scores ranged from a low of 4,396 to a high of 5,000 (a range of 604 points).

Robert Hoover won the Sportsman class. There were 11 pilots in Sportsman. The winning order was: (1) Robert Hoover, (2) Peter Johnson, (3) Ron Ash, (4) Azhar Osmanbhoy, (5) Bill Fong, (6) Nick Bowling, (7) Bill Newman, (8) Dan Lurvey, (9) Greg Zettler, (10) Brandon Woyshnis and (11) Geoffrey Dryer. They flew 6 known sequences (3 rounds) and 1 unknown round. The scores ranged from a low of 3,373.4 to a high of 4,989.1 (a range of 1,615.8 points).

Roni Taipale won the Intermediate class. There were 4 pilots in Intermediate. The winning order was: (1) Roni Taipale, (2) Mike Raines, (3) Warren Wilson and (4) Rick Gadd. They flew 6 known sequences (3 rounds) and 1 unknown round. The scores ranged from a low of 3,900.4 to a high of 5,000 (a range of 1,099.6 points).

Jerry Ruscheinski won the Advanced class. There was 1 pilot in Advanced. The winning order was: (1) Jerry Ruscheinski. He flew 4 known sequences (2 rounds) and 1 unknown round.

Darin Miller won the Unlimited class. There were 3 pilots in Unlimited. The winning order was: (1) Darin Miller, (2) Darren Kuhn and (3) Dave Davis. They flew 6 known sequences (3 rounds) and 1 unknown round. The scores ranged from a low of 4,185.6 to a high of 4,964.9 (a range of 779.3 points).

In addition to the standard classes, there was 1 special class: Seniors.

Ron Ash won the Seniors class. There were 8 pilots in Seniors. The winning order was: (1) Ron Ash, (2) Nick Bowling, (3) Mike Raines, (4) Dan Lurvey, (5) Bill Newman, (6) Greg Zettler, (7) Warren Wilson and (8) Rick Gadd. They flew 6 known sequences (3 rounds) and 1 unknown round. The scores ranged from a low of 0.615 to a high of 0.794 (a range of 0.180 points).

Darren Kuhn won the Freestyle class. There were 4 pilots in Freestyle. The winning order was: (1) Darren Kuhn, (2) Peter Johnson, (3) Brandon Woyshnis and (4) Jeff Merritt. They flew 1 freestyle round. The scores ranged from a low of 659.8 to a high of 1,000 (a range of 340.2 points).

The tightest competition was for 2nd place in the Sportsman class, with only 20.3 points difference between Peter Johnson and Ron Ash.
