In the past NATS, it has been reported, for example, which airframes were flown by which pilot, and which motor, which radio system, what size props, how many blades on the props, how many batteries, what size batteries, regulators? etc...
does anyone know if this information for this year had been collected and shared in public.
It is always interesting to know this information, especially for the modelers and the consumers, since it helps to guide us, as to what works well, and what is reliable. |

I can confirm this information was not collected at the 2017 NATS. Guess I dropped the ball. Since I have 2 more years in my NATS contract, I will try to make this available at the 2018 and 2019 NATS. |

Don't think you dropped the ball at all and I think the request is perhaps a bit unreasonable. I was only associated with the Nats for two years but as far as I know this info was not collected. Cam may be thinking of the 2014 Worlds where there was a summary of radio, plane, engine etc for the competitors. It is complicated enough to make the Nats run smoothly. If someone wants to come and take on the job of canvassing all the competitors then that is great, but the CD and team have enough to worry about without collecting all these details.

With enough forethought, it can be accomplished. Pilots have to attend the pilots meeting the evening prior to the start of the NATS..... A form can be made and passed around at that meeting to collect the info.
At the 2014 Worlds, we had a form at the check in table. Phyllis Youngblood made the form, from which the information was later transferred to her Exel program that she made up. Wayne |

Its something I could of done as a reporter, just didn't think of it! Its a great request. If I am honored with the opportunity again, I will try to facilitate the collection of that info. (I am sure the sponsors of the pilots would love it!) |

Not. I have been to a lot of Nats, and there has never been a formal collection of this data by contest management that I can recall. When it has been published, it has been by an independent observer who collected it, or just from someone's memory of who flies what. Edited by user Tuesday, August 29, 2017 12:09:16 PM(UTC)

With the functionality of being able to look up members, I will send out an email to the competitors and see if I can come up with the data.
So, If you get an email from me I would appreciate it if you would respond with the questionnaire.
If you choose not to, I will respect that. I will give it 2 weeks, with a reminder after 1. |

Dear Gentlemen,
for many of you, even those whom have met me, but really do not know me, please forgive me,
but do not take what I posted too seriously.
I never meant to make a post and get so many people fired up and even have someone feel that they "failed"
come on now!
I was simply asking a question if this information was gathered and available, but not to say, it is the responsibility of anyone to have done this.
So please forgive me.
I had no intention of creating this.
Maybe in the future, I should avoid posting things, I should just keep my mouth shut. |
Wish I could fly everyday! |

Doug... Even when one thinks that the bases are covered, there will still be gaps...... As can be seen in the data that was collected at the 2014 Worlds. Some fields were not written in by the pilots. PilotData.pdf (42kb) downloaded 11 time(s).To be honest.... I don't think anyone previously had collected such data at any of the Scale Aerobatics NATS, including during my tenure. Still, for future reference, it might be an avenue to pursue so we can see the progression of the electrics and when pilots start moving in that direction. Wayne |

Cam, I thought the question was interesting, so I ran with it. I am going to email and see if I get a response. It is pretty thorough, so I imagine I will get some of the blanks that Wayne experienced. Was just something I hadn't thought of before. Rich |
